Take Heed to Yourself!

Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He has purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28).

Paul gave this admonition at a pastor’s conference he held in Ephesus. Before we’re able to minister to others, we must first of all allow the Lord to minister to us. Sometimes you do more by doing less.

American culture rewards achievement. We’re highly productive sometimes at the expense of our personal fellowship with God and with our spouse and children.

Smith Wigglesworth said: Pay attention to life’s inflo; outward service will dwindle if inward energies are not renewed. Taking heed to yourself means tasking the time to get your own spiritual needs met before you minister to others. It also means taking needed rest after periods of busyness and work.

Each day of our lives should contain time with God, spouse, kids, work, and recreation and leisure. The recreation and leisure are as equally important as the other things we give attention to.

The flight attendant always tells you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first in any emergency, before you try to help anyone else. We can’t help others unless we first take care of our personal needs.
